Russell was previously Head of UK & Ireland Retail Equity Derivatives at Citigroup, joining in early 2004. Together with Andrew Lakeman, he successfully established Citigroup as a leader in the provision of private placement structured investments to institutional and professional asset managers in the UK. Along with Andrew and Tom, Russell has been a constant presence in the institutional structured products market in the UK, since its inception in the early 2000s.

Prior to joining Citigroup, Russell was Director of Retail Sales at AXA Investment Managers, with responsibility for the sales of proprietary retail investment funds, multimanager and alternative investment products from AXA Group companies and Alliance Capital Management. Russell’s appointment with AXA in 1999 was preceded by 1 year in institutional asset management and 11 years in pensions and investment consultancy.

Nick Johal

Nick Johal joined the team in 2014 as Head of Fixed Income. Identifying an opportunity that exists within synthetic Credit markets and great synergies with our client base, he has been an important addition to the team. He previously spent 14 years at Barclays Capital, most recently running the Fixed Income team within Investor Solutions. Nick was responsible for distributing approximately GBP2bn nominal of Retail Bonds since the inception of the Order Book for Retail Bonds, including the GBP300m 8y LSE and GBP265m National Grid linker. He is regularly invited to speak at the LSE and other industry conferences, gaining a very strong reputation in this area of the market. Early successes in the Retail Bond space led to mandates for successful equity IPO’s and Investment Trust launches, the highlight of which was a senior role in the privatisation of Royal Mail (Intermediary Offer.) Previous roles including Multi-Asset Structured Products Sales, Prime Brokerage, Derivatives Operations and Collateral Management.

Concerns around duration, liquidity, valuations and supply in Credit have prompted investors to look for a more flexible solution. Nick believes many of the historical challenges and risks of investing in corporate bonds, which sought to be mitigated by Retail Bonds, still persist and solutions exist using synthetic credit structures such as Credit-Linked Notes, Bond Re-packs and Index Tranches.

Having read Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University he embarked on his financial career joining the Broker Services Desk at Aviva Investors helping to promote their Mutual Fund Proposition to UK Intermediaries, Discretionary Fund Managers and Third Parties, before moving to the Retail Structured Equity Derivatives Desk at Investec Bank.

Alex holds the Private Client Investment Advice and Management Certificate (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments) and the Investment Management Certificate (CFA Institute).

As Head of the European Securitised Equity Derivative and Secondary Market Trading teams at Citigroup between 2005 and 2008, Tom was responsible for a team trading all securitised derivative products on both primary and secondary markets.

During this time of significant growth for derivatives markets, Tom was instrumental in establishing Citigroup as a leader in both primary market innovation and secondary market trading for the UK private placement market. Prior to this, Tom was part of the Structured Equity Derivatives Trading team at Citi, with specific responsibility for Constant Proportion Portfolio Insurance and Delta 1 Trading.

Oriana joined the team in June 2015, prior to that she spent 3 years at Premier Asset Management on the creative side of the marketing team, gaining experience in the design and layout of sales and marketing communications including presentations, market commentaries, investment reports and press publications. Oriana brings these skills with her, where her primary role is in supporting the distribution team through the production of marketing materials.
